Wet Weather for the South and East
An unusually strong December storm system will bring very wet weather and the chance for severe storms to parts of the South and East on the busiest travel weekend of the holiday season.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced Risk of severe weather in central Florida. This includes Orlando, Cape Coral, Lakeland, Brandon, and Palm Bay. Damaging wind gusts and tornadoes are the primary concerns.
A tornado watch is already in place for parts of Florida. The watch will continue until 4 PM ET. A few tornadoes are likely as are scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph.
Farther north, excessive rainfall will be possible today and tomorrow. Flood watches are posted from Georgia to Maine.
This potent pre-Christmas storm system could potentially create travel disturbances over the next few days as we head into some of the busiest travel days of the year. Stay tuned to local forecasts!
