Tropical Storm Emily Makes Landfall

A Tropical Storm Warning continues from Anclote River to Bonita Beach, FL after Tropical Storm Emily made landfall around 10:45 ET this morning on Anna Marie Island.

As of 11 AM ET, Emily’s maximum sustained winds were around 45 mph with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend out about 60 miles from Emily’s center. Emily is expected to lose strength as it moves across Florida later today and tonight.

The primary concern with this Tropical Storm continues to be the threat for very heavy rainfall. Generally, 2-4″ of rain can be expected through tonight from Tampa Bay to Naples. Isolated amounts up to 8″ are also possible. Other parts of central and southern Florida can expect anywhere form 1-2″ of rain.

Street flooding is already being reported in parts of Manatee and Sarasota counties. Localized flooding will continue to be a concern today. If you live in a flood prone area, take precautions.
